Breeding an Animal

Breeding an Animal

What can hatred breed?
More hatred?
Or vengeance?
Unquenchable and inextinguishable

What can anyone do?
At things so unnatural?
Against ire so profound
That clenches onto your soul

How will voices move?
When there’s a din all around you
At whom will you shout?
And pound to death in about

Will there be any solace for the rested
Will this violence be replaced by complacence?
Will there be angels waiting for the dead?
Or just people with tears and cries by their bed?

Will there be a break in this loop
For those who are left aloof?
Can you keep away from the same hatred?
When you see the tiny hands of those you knew?

Shouting and screeching
Incessant weeping
Pounding on worn brows
People lying dead in scores

What can god do?
When the devil is your only friend?
What can love cure?

When there’s nothing left to spare?
