THE DEPARTING

The Departing

When I stood very tall
Towering over you all
I looked upon you
With love and kindness

I stooped down too low
I fell on my knees
I’ve lost my voice
I can’t count my loss

It rains on me now
My tears lost in snow
Frozen solid in time
That’s what life chose to define

I was made for no reason
I’ve lived past many a season
Waiting for my resting place
Spending time in this space

My life will go unsung
My strings have been strung
Life has not given me much
Now I’m ready for that lurch

In my despair I wait for you
I’ve prepared my deathbed, it’s new
You’ll come on a sleepy night
Free me with your blinding light
